The DWP call this ‘Convergence’. Those who receive Incapacity Benefit (IB), Income Support (IS) and Severe Disability Allowance (SDA) will now have to claim Employment Support Allowance (ESA). You must complete the claim form for ESA when it is sent to you or your benefit will stop. If you do not complete the form they will assume you do not want benefits for being sick. Other groups will be included in the first run, but we don’t know who these will be yet. This change will affect many of us and we would like to remind you we have two Welfare Benefit Officers here to help. We can help you claim the correct benefits. Call your Welfare Benefit Officers on 0300 303 2500
