The family all help, except the dog You can make a difference too

Two generations of the Damm family, from Chelmsford, are involved in improving our service. Bradley, Jessica and their mum Tracy are on our Newsletter Editorial Panel. They are happy that we listen to their views and that they make a difference in creating this newsletter, which has over 8,000 readers. They can’t always come during the school term time, but like to have a say when we meet in the school holidays.

“I won a Kids’ Zone competition and that’s how my family first got involved. We got talking about the newsletter and we went to one of the newsletter meetings.

I felt quite powerful that I can put forward an idea and they change the newsletter depending on how good it is. It goes out to so many people too!

It’s quite scary being the youngest, but everyone was nice and it’s a good opportunity.” Bradley, 12

“I spoke with Adam (Editor) about what the Newsletter Editorial Panel do. Basically, they discuss the issues that go into the magazine and how to improve it on behalf of other residents. All the information that goes into it is really interesting and I’m always learning new things. I work in a school office and put together the information that goes into the school newsletter. I was interested to see how a professional newsletter goes together.

I wanted to learn new skills and will take them back to put together my own newsletter.” Tracy, 41

res-aaproved1“As I am a media student in my last year at school, I thought it would be helpful to learn new skills and use my other skills by putting them into practice. I had a few ideas for the newsletter and took them to the Editorial Panel. I was really pleased my thoughts were listened to and I helped with the newsletter. I even told my media teacher at school.

I had a shot at designing the Resident Approved logo and won the competition, the logo is now on the front cover.

I would recommend everyone to get involved and try the competitions as you never know! Jessica, 15
