STAR in the Community Awards 2011
Do you know someone who has made a difference to your Tower Hamlets neighbourhood?
It could be someone who does community or youth work, or someone who has overcome a personal obstacles to achieve success. Or someone who runs a community group or organises events for others.
If so, why not show them how much you appreciate what they are doing by nominating them for a STAR in the Community Award?

The five categories are:
- Inspirational resident award
- Young person of the year award (Under 25s only)
- Contribution to resident involvement award
- Bringing people together award
- Environmental award

Categories
- Inspirational Resident Award - someone who has, for example worked to improve residents health, carried out youth work, improved employment prospects for others, shown dedication to improve the local area or cared for others
- Young Person of the Year Award - someone who is under 25 who has, for example made a positive difference to the neighbourhood, helped promote young people's views, overcome personal obstacles to achieve success or worked to improve relationships between the young and old.
- Contribution to Resident Involvement Award - someone who has, for example encouraged other residents to 'get involved', is a resident's advocate, shown a commitment to resident involvement or works regularly with their landlord
- Bringing People Together Award - someone who has, for example helped bring the community together, encourages residents to have a sense of pride, promotes initiatives to make the community safer, worked to improve residents finances or puts the community first
- Environmental Award - someone who has, for example formed a gardening club, promoted recycling schemes, encourages the use of open spaces
Rules
- Deadline for entries 5pm on 5 August 2011
- All nominations must be via this electronic form or on an official nomination form (available from your landlord)
- All nominations must live in a Tower Hamlets property managed by: Gateway HA, Newlon Housing Trust, Old Ford HA, One Housing Group, Poplar HARCA, Spitalfields HA, Swan HA, THCH or Tower Hamlets Homes.
- Residents or resident groups can nominate
- There is no limit to the number of nominations that an individual or group can receive
- An individual or group may nominate for more than one category
- There is no age limit (except the Young Person of the Year Award where entrants must be under 25 years of age)
- Previous winners will not be considered for the same category
Judging
A panel of independent resident judges will decide the winners. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 21 November 2011.
