emily_nicholls_300 Emily Nicholls, is determined to get a career and make a stable life for her young son. She lives at our parent and child Foyer in Basildon, Essex.

“My son Riley is two years old and is my world. I have only been at the Foyer for about a month or so until I get an opportunity to move into somewhere more permanent elsewhere. At present I’m being trained and supported to live on my own and start my career.

Like many young parents I also have many ambitions in life. I want to make sure I make a stable future for me and my son.

When I was in my early teens I wanted to be a hairdresser, but I had a change of heart when my little Riley came along. Now, one day I’d like to run my own nursery because I love working with children.

I am currently studying a childcare course, four days a week. I enjoy it and it’s so rewarding to see them develop and learn new things.

When my course ends in June I hope to get a work placement at a local nursery that may be willing to take me on - hopefully I’ll get the opportunity I’ve been waiting for!
