Domestic abuse claims the life of 2 women a week and 1 man every 3 weeksDomestic abuse is very common and currently claims the life of two women a week and one man every three weeks. One incident of domestic abuse is reported to the Police every minute.

Domestic Violence is ‘Any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional) between adults who are or have been intimate partners or family members, regardless of gender or sexuality’.

This includes so called ‘honour based violence’, forced marriage, abuse of power and intimidation. Whatever form it takes it is rarely a one-off incident and should instead be seen as a pattern of abuse and controlling behaviour through which the abuser seeks power over their victim.
