What is Domestic Abuse?

Swan was the only Housing association to send a male representative to both of these events!“Any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional) between adults who are, or have been intimate partners, or family members, regardless of gender or sexuality.”

Swan are committed to raise awareness of domestic abuse - how wide spread domestic abuse is and its affects. We also want to promote healthy relationships based on trust and equality.

Recent facts show that:

  • 2 women per week are killed in England and Wales by a partner or ex-partner.
  • 1 in 4 women will experience Domestic Abuse at some point in their lives.
  • 1 in 8 men will experience Domestic Abuse at some point in their lives.

We attended an event to remember those murdered each year by their partner or ex-partner in Basildon Town Square, Essex in November and went to Tower Hamlets Domestic Violence awareness ‘Valentine weekend’ at the IDEA stores in February.

Swan was the only Housing association to send a male representative to both of these events!
