One idea is through solar panels on the roofs of some of our homes We have been looking into ways of saving residents money. One idea is through solar panels on the roofs of some of our homes.

The people in those homes will get free electricity generated from the solar panels. It won’t necessarily be all the electricity they need, but we hope to reduce their fuel bills by around 40%, saving them about £300 per year.

It’s good for the environment too as solar electricity is a completely green, renewable energy source and doesn't release any harmful carbon dioxide (CO2) or other pollutants into the atmosphere.

We will run a pilot scheme on the Sunnedon Estate in Basildon in March. If successful, we plan to fit other homes with solar panels around July.
